DISTINGUISHING FEATURE OF THE CLASS:
This position is responsible for doing routine work that involves providing assistance to professional and technical Board of Education personnel in the performance of their duties, which includes the supervision and care of children, but does not require teaching or other professional skills. The incumbent receives general supervision from the school principal and/or other delegated authority. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative Only)
Assists the school administrator with the supervision of students while in the cafeteria, school
yard, classrooms, hallways, etc.;
Participates with the distribution and inventory of textbooks, supplies, equipment and materials for school programs, i.e., exhibits, fairs, health education, etc.;
Provides assistance with the supervision of the school lunch program by maintaining order in the lunchroom, oversees the return of trays, dishes and utensils and disposal of refuse under
the supervision of an administrator;
May weigh and measure students and assist with other aspects of the health program;
Assists in the monitoring of school projects, i.e., plays, fairs, newspapers, magazine sales, trips, decorating bulletin boards, etc.;
Assists in providing for the safety of the students during arrival to and dismissal from school
under the supervision of a school administrator;
May perform simple clerical tasks under close supervision and direction;
May assist with translations when needed;
May use intercom system and/or walkie-talkie equipment.
FULL PERFORMANCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Working knowledge of the school system pertaining to classroom routine and activities;
Working knowledge of elementary first aid methods and procedures;

Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or possession of a High School Equivalency Diploma.
