DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

This position is responsible for the simple preparation and finishing of food products, as well as the cleaning of kitchen and dining room equipment and utensils. Some assignments involve operating a Point of Service (P.O.S.) cash register and keeping simple electronic and written records. Direct supervision is received from administrative personnel. Does related work as required.


TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
Assists in the checking and unpacking of food items and supplies;
Participates in food preparation, completion and service;
Cleans the dining, kitchen and serving areas and equipment;
Washes and dries dishes, pots and pans;
Takes cash and completes the sheets and record cards as required.


FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Working knowledge of food serving and cleaning tableware and kitchen equipment;
Working knowledge of proper use of cleaning supplies and dishwashing methods;
Ability to follow simple oral and written directions;
Ability to operate a P.O.S. cash register;
Ability to take cash, make change and keep simple records;
Ability to maintain effective working relationships;
Elementary arithmetic aptitude;
Cleanliness; neatness; tact; courtesy; good judgment;
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Six (6) months experience in domestic work, including food service, preferably in an institution, restaurant or cafeteria.
